Photo retention & privacy

We aim to strike a balance between availability of our services and privacy regulations such as required by GDPR. This page outlines how long photos uploaded to Odd Giraffe are stored, based on how they are used and the time since upload. These retention periods may be updated as our systems evolve.

We aim to comply with applicable data protection laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and, where applicable, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

 

How we use your photos

Photos uploaded to Odd Giraffe are used only for:

  • Creating and previewing your personalised designs
  • Producing and fulfilling your orders
  • Providing customer support where required

We do not use your photos for marketing, advertising, or public display without your permission.

Retention periods

We retain photos for different periods depending on how they are used:

  • Photos uploaded but not used in a design
    Up to 90 days
  • Photos used in a saved design (no order placed)
    Up to 12 months
  • Photos used in a completed order
    Up to 24 months
  • Photos uploaded by guest users (no account)
    Typically 30 to 90 days

If a photo is reused in a new design or order, the retention period may reset from that point.

After the applicable retention period, photos are automatically deleted from our systems.

Access and security

Your photos are stored securely and are only accessed when necessary for production or customer support.

We do not manually review or access your photos unless required to resolve an issue or fulfill your order.

We do not sell or share your photos with third parties, except where required for printing and delivery.

Your rights

You can manage your data at any time by:

  • Deleting designs from your account
  • Requesting permanent deletion of your data
  • Contacting our support team for assistance

Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection laws, including the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data.

Legal basis and compliance

We process your photos only as necessary to provide our services to you.

This includes fulfilling your orders, maintaining your designs, and providing support.

We aim to comply with applicable data protection laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and, where applicable, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Exceptions

We may retain certain data for longer where required for legal, regulatory, or fraud prevention purposes, or in case of disputes.

If you have talent and designs to share, please send them to hello@oddgiraffe.com as we're constantly seeking new submissions. However, please note that we receive a large number of design submissions and may not be able to offer personalized feedback if your artwork doesn't currently meet our requirements.
